In Roman times a sea channel was maintained with difficulty to a harbour well west of Pion. By late Byzantine times this channel had become useless, and the coast by the midth century was three miles farther west. Ephesus enters history in the mid-7th century bce , when it was attacked by the Cimmerians. Unlike its neighbour, Magnesia , it survived the attacks. For part of the early 6th century the city was under tyrants. Though allied by marriage to the kings of Lydia, its people could not hold back the Lydian Croesus , who asserted a general suzerainty over the city. He did, however, present many columns and some golden cows for a new and splendid rebuilding of the Artemiseum Temple of Artemis.

What does a godly dating relationship look like? Sometimes this can leave us feeling frustrated and abandoned—but our God has promised never to leave us Deuteronomy He is a patient teacher, and He has a good plan for you and me, regardless of our relationship status. But even though my failed relationships were painful at the time, looking back, I can see how God was and is still using each one to grow me into maturity. Dating should be fun and exciting, but it also represents a holy purpose and a potential covenant union.
The last half of Ephesians 5 is full of imagery of the global church as the bride of Christ. One of my most painful relationships was due almost entirely to its lack of clarity. I was so eager to move forward, and he seemed to be dragging his feet. At the time, I was frustrated, but too afraid to invite a clear conversation. One day I was venting this frustration to my mom.

The Epistle to the Ephesians , also called the Letter to the Ephesians and often shortened to Ephesians , is the tenth book of the New Testament. According to New Testament scholar Daniel Wallace , the theme may be stated pragmatically as “Christians, get along with each other! Brothers and sisters: If God is for us, who can be against us? He did not spare his own Son but handed him over for us all, how will he not also give us everything else along with him? It is God who acquits us. Who will condemn? It is Christ Jesus who died, rather, was raised, who also is at the right hand of God, who indeed intercedes for us.
What will separate us from the love of Christ? Will anguish, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or the sword? No, in all these things, we conquer overwhelmingly through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor present things, nor future things, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Welcome to a study of the book of Ephesians. The close study of any book of literature often begins with the questions of authorship, time of authorship, purpose, and themes. The authorship of Ephesians is contested; the dates for writing range from 60 CE to 90 CE; the purpose receives some general agreement: Paul or someone wrote to strengthen, fortify people in the church confronted with controversies or at least a temptation to live as children of the world; and finally, most writers would agree with Daniel P.
As for Paul himself, as a historical person, as founder of Christianity, the discussion is on-going.

What does Ephesians mean? Paul has just mentioned the importance of mutual submission between all believers, in verse Here, he specifically applies this principle within the context of marriage. He begins with wives. Ephesians —24 is often taken drastically out of context, and grossly misinterpreted. First, wives are to submit to their own husband. Women are not commanded to submit in a similar way to all men. However, all believers are called to practice a form of humble submission to one another, as noted in verse Second, this principle is applied specifically within marriage.
Those in dating relationships, social or employment contexts, or a woman with respect to another woman’s husband are not included.
